ABOUT ME

Hey, I’m Malia. A financial educator on a mission to help others becomes more comfortable and confident in managing their personal finances.

Back in 2018, as I neared college graduation with a promising job ahead, I realized my knowledge of personal finance was minimal. Raised in a family where money talk was rare and having received no formal education on the subject, I felt unprepared. This realization spurred me to attend a Financial Literacy class on campus.

I quickly became obsessed with the information I was learning, because I realized this knowledge held power in how I was going to make decisions with my money and with my life. Along the way, I felt the strong desire to share with everyone around me what I was learning!

Since those initial classes, I continued to self-educate through books, and eventually took to the internet to share my journey. I recognized that talking about money is typically “taboo” but felt the urge to change that narrative. I created my blog, Little Miss Finance, as a space to be vulnerable and transparent about my situation, what I was learning, and what I was doing, in hopes to educate or inspire others.

After achieving goals such as paying off $20k of my student loans in 10 months, $100k invested in the stock market, beginning to invest in real estate & more, I teach others through content creation, 1:1 coaching & public speaking engagements.

It’s no secret that financial wellbeing has become just as important to individuals as physical and mental wellbeing. With the increased need for financial literacy, employees are looking for these resources at work. In fact, according to YuLife’s Employee Health & Wellbeing Survey, nearly two-thirds of individuals consider a sense of financial wellbeing to be the workplace’s responsibility.

What is more startling is that 80% of workers believe that stress around financial wellbeing can negatively impact performance in the workplace… but many don’t feel comfortable to talk about it.

I have experienced this first hand myself, and with several of my former colleagues and friends. Thus my mission is to help organizations retain talent & decrease turnover by providing financial wellbeing education to employees, specific to their workplace financial benefits or personal finance foundations.
